emo for obama

October 15, 2008

this is hilarious. imagine if we had an emo president? that’d be sick. people in the fall out boy fan club (aka the overcast kids) would get a tax break, and our national anthem would be changed to Welcome to Paradise , the president would send out messages to the country via Friends or Enemies, and it would be mandatory for every American to blog their deepest feelings on LiveJournal. Kids in school would have to read things like “Everybody Hurts: An Essential Guide to Emo Culture,” and “My So-Called Punk.” Oh, and we’d all get work off for Bamboozle, Warped Tour, etc. Hey, one can dream.

rock of love charm school

October 8, 2008

is this for real? well, the answer is obviously yes, it is for real, and obviously I have to weigh in heavily on the matter.

i was walking down lafayette street yesterday and spotted a huge billboard and noticed my homegirl heather, from rock of love season 1, on it. all i could see due to the BP station blocking my view was the words “rock of love.” my heart skipped a beat thinking there would soon be another glorious season of trashy girls fighting for bret michaels. but no. i realized it was this:

another sweet blog

September 24, 2008

thanks to my cute as a button pod-mate at work, i found kimberly snyder’s blog, which has a lot of cool health articles. i’m especially digging this one, about how people trying to gain weight should just drink diet soda all day. im serious. it really doesnt help you lose weight. and worse…it lowers your vibe.  snap

September 22, 2008

the latest additions to the coffee flavors in the office kitchen:

update (9.23): i went in the kitchen this morning and noticed that the box of obama blend is almost empty, while the mccain blend is still pretty full. looks like people are drinkin the obama juice.

pass the salt, baby

September 22, 2008

so if you’ve ever eaten with me before you probably know that i put salt on everything. i am pretty much a salt junkie. people always have these negative reactions to my salt-fests, and i just ignore them, because a big peeve of mine is when people comment rudely about the food i’m about to eat. ya know? like, pay attention to your own damn food. i am not looking at your gross ham and telling you all the nasty stuff i know about it. i could, too.

anyway, i think i’ve officially met my match when it comes to salt consumption, and he and i were discussing the pros and cons of our heavy saltation habits. i’ve never done much research on it and decided to start digging into to the truth about salt and health so i can squelch the salt-haters once and for all. (shannon, any input here is encouraged).

so what is the real deal when it comes to salt? just so you know, i’m mostly pulling pro-salt facts for this post so consider it biased. Read the rest of this entry »

dots gloves

September 19, 2008

hey, all you cowabunga addicts out there, you know who you are. (cough) have no fear, rest easy, you can still spend the winter months working on your high scores and your fingers don’t have to freeze off.

these gloves have metal dots on the fingers that were made to be used with iphones.

im such a giver. i don’t even have an iphone. i just like to spread the love. xx

brain toniq

September 19, 2008

ooh ooh…i think i like this.

although i’ve totally been on a soul-purifying kombucha kick for the past few months, im always down to try something new. thanks to heidi, i got tipped off about a new concoction called brain toniq.

I love how that picture makes it look all angelic or something. Here’s the rundown of what the site says: Read the rest of this entry »

love is the drug

September 18, 2008

so, a friend of mine said something interesting to me the other day. she told me that what happens to your brain when you fall in love is the same thing as what happens to your brain when you’re high on cocaine. i haven’t been able to stop thinking about this phenomenon. so i did a bit of research. turns out it all comes down to one little friend we like to call dopamine. rice krispie overkill

September 18, 2008

this morning when i was making my beautiful bowl of oatmeal and berries in the kitchen at work i noticed a shocking new addition to the snack selection. normally there are rice krispie treats (yes i know they are called rice krispieS treats but i dont like that at all).

anyway so i normally see this size sitting around in the basket, totally innocent looking:

but today was different. today there were rice krispie treats the size of BOULDERS in there. i had to take a picture to prove it. i did a photo shoot of the treat next to my sticky pad cube to show the sheer ginormity of it.

notice the irony that the sticky pad says “everyday health.” umm this is just a hunch, but eating a full blown meal of rice krispie treat indulgence is not healthy everyday or even just one day. when i was walking back from the kitchen to my desk with this rice krispie treat in hand i actually tried to hide it under my scarf because its like, embarassingly large. hahaha.

if you can’t tell how big that rice krispie treat is, just take my word for it.

gym class heroes – cookie jar

September 17, 2008

so i’ve got a question for my fellow fueled by ramen doobies out there…what do you think of this jam? you know, I think something about travie’s voice is just super sexy no matter what.

The fact that this song is about how he can’t stop cheating on his girlfriend is humorous to me, only because he is comparing girls to cookies, and says he’s a “cookieholic” and goes to “cookie anonymous” meetings. Really?

Oh well, either way, I have a feeling I’m gonna be rocking this for awhile. I mean hey, I’m still trying to memorize all the words to “clothes off!”

And you know, if you want, you can always head on down to AK 47 and give travis himself a piece of your mind. Or your cookies.

so what? i’m still a rock star.

September 16, 2008

yo im like a blogging machine right now. i just have to share my enthusiasm for a couple of songs that i just downloaded this morning at like 7:30am. I love having new material to listen to on the subway. yes, i got these off the itunes top songs list, but you know, after listening to some real trippy melodic stuff for the past few days i needed some poppy candy to get me going again. so these songs have me all amped up right now.

bite my lip and close my eyes

September 15, 2008

i say this a lot i know, but putting my ipod on shuffle mode really stirs things up for me. today on the lovely F train i was power-shuffling and got some great stuff going in my head.

remember getting grounded? i love hearing about the various reasons why people got grounded when they were little. i remember one time back in 1994 (i was 14) and i had just bought green day’s dookie album. wow, i loved that album. i had a supercrush on billie joe armstrong and listened to those songs repeatedly, made up dances to them, felt all badass, you know.

now back to my reality show

September 15, 2008

so, i tell people all the time that i live my life like there’s cameras on me, like i’m in a movie or a reality tv show or something. you can laugh all you want, but it really makes life more fun. i always say to myself that if my life were a movie, i need to make sure it’s one that i’d want to watch. not one that i’d get bored of or want to fast forward through. so i try and spice it up as much as possible. for instance, this morning i turned a not-great situation into a something really fun.

five leaves – heath ledger’s bar

September 12, 2008

so this interests me for a few reasons.

reason 1 is obviously because of my love for heath ledger. reason 2 is that i have a fondness for bars opened up by the “men in my life.” and, i’ll say it, reason 3 is because i’m becoming a bit of a williamsburg regular as of late. yeah, this bar is techincally in greenpoint. but. irregardless.

apparently, “five leaves,” a cafe-bar-oyster joint is a project heath was working on, and is finally opening tonight. i’ll keep you posted once i check it out .

i’m a coffee marketer’s dream…

September 12, 2008

so today at work I was checking out the vast array of coffee flavors available in the kitchen and I must admit, it was really overwhelming. a couple of people walked through the kitchen and made comments as I was staring at the coffees, tapping my foot and doing the stumped with a decision face….
How on earth did I choose a flavor, you may be asking yourself. Read the rest of this entry »

Entourage wants to be me.

September 7, 2008

So, I’ve noticed an interesting tidbit of information over the past few days. As we all know, Entourage is starting up again tonight and there has been no shortage of signage announcements all over NYC. Billboards, buses and the like are all covered in Entourage ads with the following tagline :

Um…does anyone else notice the similarity between the Entourage tagline and my blog’s tagline?

How about the fact that they are exactly the same? Seems like someone’s been stalking my blog for ideas…hopefully Vinny Chase. And that’s fine with me, he’ll just have to pay me back later in the form of marriage. That really shouldn’t be too much to ask. Now, here’s my question. Did Entourage always have this tagline or is it new? Did I unconsciously steal it from them? Further investigation is necessary. I found a list of some of their tag lines here.

Anyway. Just some more food for thought. There’s a lesson to be learned here, kids. You really never know who is stalking down your taglines. Sigh….

sugar, we’re goin DOWN.

August 26, 2008

so, like every Tuesday, we had birthday cake in the sales meeting today. I usually refrain from eating this 11am dessert overload but today was different: the birthday cake was for me (on thursday I turn the big 2-6). so, although my trainer would say don’t eat the cake. why would you punish yourself on a day of celebration?” I felt the need to try it. It was, after all, my favorite….red velvet.

so I ate a piece of the cake, and i have recently renamed this experience “red velvet torture.” Read the rest of this entry »

Just another philosophical conversation at In Vino.

August 26, 2008

So, the other night I got to spend a really wonderful and celebratory evening with my sister and our honorary brother at In Vino. Listen up kids – In Vino is an amazing date spot, mark my words, you will score big points if you take someone there.

Every time I go there, I think about how awesome it would be for a date. It’s perfect because it’s all cavernous and dimly lit, but it’s in alphabet city so it’s got the down-to-earth east village vibe and you don’t have to get all fancied up to go there. Read the rest of this entry »

Michael Phelps breakfast

August 25, 2008

Is this for real!?

(From Revolution Health)

12,000 calories. That’s how many calories Michael Phelps is reported to eat each day.

Michael’s breakfast is reported to include three fried-egg sandwiches topped with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, fried onions and mayonnaise, an omelet made with five eggs, three chocolate-chip pancakes, three slices of French toast dusted with sugar, a bowl of grits, and two cups of coffee.

DUDE. WTF. Seriously? I don’t know how he fits that much food in his body at once without puking. That is just beyond crazybrains to me. Actually, you know what, I don’t believe it. I really don’t believe that’s true at all. PROVE IT!

Smashing Pumpkins – Muzzle

August 22, 2008

This song is so amazing. It’s my favorite SP song ever. There’s really no contest. Well, I guess there could be, but I just love the lyrics to this one.

The original version, from Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness can be heard here.
There are a bunch of great live versions of this song – one can be heard here. (ff to :37 secs)

NYC…get ready for Lisa Sansouci

August 22, 2008

That’s right, friends- my beautiful, talented, amazing best friend and little sister all in one is MOVING TO NYC SEPT 1st!!

I could not be more excited about this development. She rocks. We really are twins at heart. Not physically, but mentally. And…not identical in the mental department either…but very close. Anyway, NYC should get ready for her arrival. Especially since she’s almost finished recording her first album, which will be off the hook. Will NYC be able to handle both Sansouci sisters? Only time will tell.

punk rock & buddhism

August 21, 2008

“Being Buddhist is about as punk as you can get.” This is a quote from Noah Levine, meditation coach and author of “Dharma Punx” and “Against the Stream.”

This interests me. I’m really intrigued by the thought of punk rock being related closely to Buddhism, mainly because I’ve always been attracted to punk rock and have recently realized how attracted I am to Buddhist principles as well. Seems like there really is a strong connection between the two, so I just wanted to throw some stuff out there, food for thought, to see what you cats think. Read the rest of this entry »

I want to be in a music video.

August 19, 2008

I’m serious. Do people still make music videos? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes. Just because I don’t sit around watching MTV and VH1 videos anymore doesn’t mean they just stopped production altogether. I’m not THAT important. At least not to the music video makers.

I got this music video urge this morning. While my iPod was on shuffle, I began shamlessly enjoying Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry” (how can I possibly still like that song!? Somebody please kick me in the teeth immediately) and I realized that it would be fun to be the lead woman in a love story music video. I even started thinking about who I’d want the leading man love interest to be. If it weren’t Pete Wentz or Josh Hartnett, I’d probably just go with Greg or Scott.

Anyway, if anyone is making a music video in the near future, count me in, baby! And it doesn’t have to be a love story, I’d settle for a restaurant scene or even, if we’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel here…a crowd scene.

Let me know.

Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp

August 17, 2008

While I don’t like to admit that I take tips from NYC cab tv (i usually hit “OFF” when I hear “diana! sade! come on in!”), I was recently in a cabbity cabber heading uptown when I saw a segment about the Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp.

Anberlin – Like a Rolling Stone

August 17, 2008

So, a new character has recently stepped into the cast of the movie that is my life, and he’s been encouraging me to get all hopped up on bob dylan music and info. I’ve even started reading this:

That’s all great and everything, but here’s the thing – I needed to find my own reasons for wanting to learn more about good old Bobby D, because I’m not just going to do something because someone else says so. Read the rest of this entry »

we’re so starving

August 17, 2008

ok, I’ll say it: I’m sorry. I’ve had a number of complaints as of late in regards to me taking some time off from posting. I sincerely apologize and feel the need to quote the somewhat annoying and completely unncessesary first track on Panic (sans !) at the Disco’s “Pretty Odd” album:

“Oh, how it’s been so long
We’re so sorry we’ve been gone
We were busy writing songs for
you.”

So, yeah. I’ve been soaking up new material and you can expect some good stuff. I love you, I swear.

PARAMORE – August 28th

August 5, 2008

wanna hang with me on my birthday?? silly question – of course you do. well, luckily, one of my favorite bands is playing in central park. what a great birthday present. thanks, paramore.

this show will be sick. i have been to a few paramore shows but you know what i think? shows are a lot better when you haven’t been addictively listening to the music as much as you used to, because songs come on and you’re like “OH YEAH! I LOVE THIS SONG!”

Personally, my faves are “Emergency,” “For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic,” “That’s What You Get,” “Born For This,” and “Crushcrushcrush.” (and of course, all hail “Misery Business” and “Pressure.”)

peeves update

July 28, 2008

more peeves i realized i have…

when the elevator button is already lit and someone keeps pressing it repeatedly – i always secretly hope they’ll get an electric shock.

PLAYS ON WORDS and intentional misspellings. This aggravates me to no end. For some reason there are an abundance of New York restaurants that feel the need to title themselves this way. Recent ones that have annoyed me include “Wok & Roll” and “Kool Bloo,” although I must admit I kind of dig “Thai Me Up.”

going green? the green book.

July 26, 2008

come on, who ISN’T going green these days!? you’ve probably at least thought about making some changes to get more green. or…at least HEARD the term going green and wondered what it meant.

well, if you’re like me, you want to learn more about what going green really means, and how you can get started, even if you aren’t in the market to build your own sustainable home.

and who better to learn from than the all-knowledgable justin timberlake and jennifer aniston!? haha – no but seriously, celebrity material included, this is a great book to get started and learn little tips and tricks to make your life greener and make an impact on the environment without much effort.

you can pick up this friendly friend wherever they sell books. and for all you commercially hip specimens out there, you can even grab one at urban outfitters. you’ll pick up little tidbits like “don’t get an ATM receipt,” (but come on, i’ve been skipping that event for as long as i’ve had a bank account, i don’t actually want to SEE my balance, people).

so go get it. you’ll start looking so green, your friends will think you’re about to puke.

hello health – jay parkinson

July 26, 2008

so, the other day i was sitting in a meeting at work and we were discussing the new innovations in the health world (one of my favorite topics these days).

show me your kanye…?

July 17, 2008

If you’ve been riding the subway recently you may have noticed some weird advertisments, telling consumers that they can “be kanye.” See below.

This is complete bizarro world to me. After further investigation, I learned that it’s an Absolut ad.

I think it’s ridiculous and it mildly annoys me, but I must admit, they probably are getting a lot of people to go to the web site. I’m sure there’s a technical term for this type of advertising. I’m wondering what other tricks different brands are going to come up with to spark curiosity and drive traffic to their sites.

So, basically if you drink Absolut vodka, you will get so smashed that you’ll think you’re Kanye for a night. Although I’m pretty sure you can just go down to St. Marks and grab a cheap pair of shutter shades to get the same effect.

starbucks vivanno

July 15, 2008

As I rounded the corner on Main St. in DUMBO today to get to my office, I noticed an unfamiliar sight: a Starbucks barista outside giving out samples of fruit smoothies, and the entire window of Starbucks covered in stickers saying “Vivanno.” Peculiar.
Turns out that S’bux launched its new line of “nourishing blends” fruit smoothies today, and apparently they are “healthy” and “so much more than just a smoothie.”

I knew I had to investigate immediately. It seems that the orange-mango-banana flavor is banana, ice, Naked juice, fiber powder and protein powder. No added sweetneners. 227 calories (grande). The banana-chocolate flavor is the same but with “mocha syrup” and no juice. 270 calories.

They may be healthier than a frappuccino, but in my opinion, Starbucks will always be a coffee joint – not a smoothie/juice bar, so I doubt this new magic trick will end up being a make or break the bank kinda thing. Let me know if you try one. If I end up trying one I’ll post my thoughts

update – i just walked by starbucks again and there’s a little star that says “contains milk.” i’m wondering if this means you can add any kind of milk (soy?) or if there’s cow milk already in the “mixture.” further investigation necessary.

coconut water is the new gatorade

July 14, 2008

For those of you that say Gatorade is the “Nectar of the Gods,” (ok, I admit, I used to say this about Gatorade Rain), think again. There’s a new kid on the block, and its name is COCONUT WATER. I’ve recently gotten really into it, and it kicks Gatorade’s ass in the categories of hydration, nutrition, taste, and general awesomness.

Coconut water is really a phenomenal beverage. It contains 15x more electrolytes than artificial sports drinks, more potassium than a banana and is all natural and super super hydrating. This is the water that comes out of a coconut when you crack it open – don’t confuse it with coconut milk, which is made from the flesh of a coconut.

And let me put this on the record for all you wild booze-cats out there – coconut water is, officially, the best hangover cure that exists. No joke.

Drink it really cold and then thank me.

punk love!

July 13, 2008

yeah! i’ve been meaning to post about this topic for most of my adolescent and adult life. it’s crucial, really. i know my homegirl lindsey can confirm this fact: punk rock love songs are truly the best love songs.

why? because they are full of heart-wrenching desperation.

in a quality punk love song, you can feel the emotions surging through every line. it makes your heart ache just hearing it. it grinds into the core of relationships and can make you cringe. i don’t care if it’s a weepy emo love ballad or a tear-you-to-pieces revenge song. either way, it taps into an extreme intensity that’s really powerful.

here are a few of my all-time favorite punk rock love songs, although my list grows daily with the abundance of indie bands that continue to enter the scene. and when i say love songs, some of these are pretty vindictive, but they have to do with love. love ain’t always sweet, after all. 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

jesse mccartney – leavin’

July 11, 2008

This is going to be quick because it’s borderline creep-town for me to be posting about Jesse McCartney. But I don’t care, I just had to, because I can’t stop listening to his damn song! I really love it. I know I’ll get sick of it soon because I’m playing it addictively. But for now, it’s basically on repeat on my iPod. Who knew little Jesse could put out an R&B album. Right?

Now, here’s the interesting thing. The video for this song is getting a lot of heat from people because it’s kinda sexual, and Jesse’s young. But you know what? He’s 21. He’s not THAT young. Granted, he LOOKS young. But people are all huffy saying that he’s not being a good role model to his younger fans. But I think he should be able to do whatever he wants – and also, it’s not like there’s nudity in the video. Just some intimate stuff.

What do you think? Also, check out the acoustic version here. He really does have a good voice for such a youngin’. I think it rocks. Go Jesse.

cleanse patch update…drama

cleanse patch!!!!

July 10, 2008

I’m so pumped!! My level of excitement about this product may, in fact, be a little scary. It is, after all, a patch that you stick on the bottom of your foot that pulls toxins from your body. Haha.

But seriously, check it. This one guy said, I am a smoker and I couldn’t believe that after I wore the patch it smelled like cigarettes the next day! My wife and I both used the patches together. She does not smoke and her patch didn’t smell anything like cigarettes. It was obviously pulling those disgusting toxins from my body.” yeah, that’s a totally, totally gross picture. i’m not so into it. but seriously, if these patches really work, that is COOL. synchronicities

July 7, 2008

Synchronicities happen to me all the time. Like, a LOT. I’d say they happen to me at an above-average rate, but I don’t really know how often they happen to all of you guys so I can’t be sure. But it seems, at least, that these crazy “meaningful coincidences” happen to me in truckloads. I’ll start writing about them when they happen, but today’s was pretty interesting to me. This is a cool link that explains synchronicities further with examples.

my latest synchronicity: I used to work in Washington, DC as a PA on the set of the TV show, “kidspace” (HGTV). Ereka Vetrini was the host. After kidspace, Ereka moved to Chicago to host the show “in the loop with iVillage.

Now I work at a company in Brooklyn completely unrelated to TV. Today, we got a new receptionist, and it just so happens that she used to work as a PA on “in the loop with iVillage”, so we both PA’d on a TV show hosted by Ereka. To me, that is crazybrains..

rolling stones american flag

happy 4th! i’m in cape cod with kawan and we just made the sickest 4th of july cake. this is what it’s gonna look like when we’re done workin our magic:

barefoot contessa flag cake

Cake batter is awesome. It’s actually my favorite fragrance of lotion, etc, although I must admit that Jessica Simpson’s dessert line of products is what started all of this for me. Anyway, I guess I just like to smell like sweets.

Kawan likes citrusy, “crisp” perfumes. Isn’t it funny how people have such different preferences? I’m really into vanilla and honey and buttercream frosting scents.

I also love sparklers!!!!

Speaking of sparklers, one of my besties Greg took a picture with “1 sparkler and a little time lapse photography.” This amazes me. It really does. He’s totally the next Criss Angel!

Have a great one 🙂
